PostNL is the main Dutch postal company and operates in the whole Benelux. Over 38,000 employees take care of the three core logistics activities: collection, sorting, and delivery. With data and digitalization, PostNL is ahead of the curve in innovating its business model, services, logistics processes, and networks.

The challenge

Cape Group, a major IT supplier to PostNL, asked Leon to help with several projects at PostNL from our expertise. In these three projects we acted as lead developer:

The Last Mile: planning applications and a mobile application for the field services
Flora (Aalsmeer): Ops Platform that handles flower & plant deliveries by PostNL, involves integration with suppliers, webshops and delivery partners
Time constraint parcel handling processes: an application that handles the incoming (postal) orders from different sources, matches orders, extends them over multiple days for recurring orders, validates orders, and plans them into a region.

PostNL is one of the largest companies in the Netherlands when it comes to order processing. That calls for a robust system. The current application had to be replaced step by step. A complex acquisition because the system had to remain up and running 24/7.

Our solution

The entire suite of Mendix apps at PostNL were set up and maintained by Cape Group, for this project they worked together with us where we took the role of Senior developer and teamlead for the above apps. The projects involved the following activities: Performance & Queueing, Extensive Configuration, Operate in large organization with Quarterly PI’s, Extensive Dev-Ops (day/night)

‍Results

The time constraint parcel handling application is tested to handle over 1 million orders per day in throughput.
Were able to onboard multiple data streams and turn off legacy applications and met the appropriate deadlines
Greatly refactored a Mendix application while it was already in production in order to keep it flexible for onboarding further data streams.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
